Reinventing the Travel Experience

The Westfield Airports team came together in Southern California for a day and a half of leadership meetings this week to share ideas around the airports industry, chart the future of the business and celebrate the successes of 2017.

One of the emerging themes of the meetings was to always innovate – as an individual, as a company and as an industry.

The first day of meetings included welcome remarks from Executive Vice President Dominic Lowe as well a deep dive into new business pursuits. The Westfield Century City team of John Marshall, Denise Taylor, Tom Tierney and Sarah Richardson dropped by in the afternoon to present a case study of the development. They covered everything from the pre-planning, design, construction, events, technology and future innovation.

With the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop, Day 1 concluded with the first Westfield Airports Awards ceremony and a team dinner.

Executive Vice President of Human Resources Bill Nelson kicked things off on Day 2 by introducing the Airports team to new organizational tools to help assess, analyze and improve the business. The whole crew broke up into groups of three for breakout sessions on “Stunning Physical Spaces,” “The Digital Journey,” and an introduction to “Service Innovation.”

Then, using the new organizational tools and the information from the sessions, those teams huddled up for two hours to brainstorm and perform assessments of each region of the Airports division. They reported back their findings to the larger group and set the course for 2018 and beyond.

“All of our people work so hard to make the airport experience better for travelers, and we’re seeing amazing results every day,” Executive Vice President Dominic Lowe said. “We have a lot to be excited about, not only celebrating the past year but looking forward to what’s next.”
