Local small business retail opportunities available at JFK Terminal 8

Applications now open for four turnkey retail kiosks as part of the URW Airports Local Small Business Retail Accelerator

In partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and American Airlines, JFK T8 Innovation Partners is giving small, local, women- and minority-owned businesses and entrepreneurs the opportunity to test their retail concepts in the airport marketplace as part of the $125 million commercial program underway in Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports, the operating entity of JFK T8 Innovation Partners, is seeking applicants to operate one of four 100 square-foot retail kiosks through its Local Small Business Retail Accelerator. These opportunities are reserved for founders or businesses from Southeast Queens, Greater Queens, the NYC Metro Area, or the NY Regional area.

URW’s Small Business Retail Accelerator is lowering the barrier to entry for small, local businesses by offering flexible deal terms and small format, plug-and-play spaces that significantly reduce upfront and design costs. Through a competitive process, the program gives local businesses the opportunity to test their concepts in the airport environment with hands-on support from URW’s team of retail experts, curated education, and networking events to enhance overall business readiness. Businesses do not need to have previous airport experience to apply.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for local entrepreneurs to learn the airport business and test their concepts on the global stage of a world-class airport at a substantially lowered risk,” said Ashley Hari, Director of Leasing, URW Airports. “Our Retail Accelerator provides right-sized opportunities for local small businesses where they are today. Our goal is to help our partners learn, grow, and achieve their ultimate success potential.”

Based on the unique customer preferences and merchandising mix at Terminal 8 suggested retail categories include: Baby, Beauty, Health & Personal Care, Home, Household Essentials, Pets, Toys, Entertainment, and Pre-Packaged Snacks & Confections (non-perishable—requiring no refrigeration).

Interested businesses are encouraged to join the Terminal 8 Local Small Business Retail Kiosk Application Webinar on May 9 from 2-3 p.m. ET for more details including a walk-through of the application and open Q&A session. Registration is available here.

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 31 at 5 p.m. ET. Application questions should be directed to infoT8@rfwconsultants.com.
