Cinco de Mayo Celebrations Arrive at Airport Terminals

Travelers flying through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Newark Liberty International (EWR), and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) enjoyed in-terminal promotions and events in celebration of Cinco de Mayo during the first week of May.

L.A. band Mariachi Romanza crooned their way through four different LAX terminals while traditional Mexican folkloric troupe Flor de Mayo delighted passengers with dancing. Paletas, a Mexican frozen treat, were distributed as complimentary snacks courtesy of Mateo’s Ice Cream & Fruit Bars.

On the East Coast, travelers enjoyed limited-time discounts at EWR Terminals A and B, and JFK guests received food and beverage specials throughout the airport.

According to U.S. News and World Report, Cinco de Mayo is even more widely celebrated in the U.S. than Mexico. The holiday, May 5, marks the day Mexico defeated the French Army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
